Shannon brings nearly 20 years of experience in community advocacy, professional development, and political engagement, with a deep commitment to empowering marginalized communities and advancing racial and social justice. As a statewide leader in training and coaching, Shannon supports organizations in building inclusive, emotionally intelligent, and equity centered cultures. Her work focuses on fostering the growth of individuals and teams through compassionate leadership, strategic development, and authentic relationship-building.
Shannon’s professional journey includes serving alongside an elected official in the Florida Senate, where she gained firsthand experience navigating public policy and governance. She has been a collaborator on campaigns advocating for the restoration of civil rights for returning citizens and championed women's rights initiatives. Her organizing and political work are grounded in the belief that systemic change begins with those closest to the issues, and she is committed to ensuring they are also closest to the power. In the community, Shannon has collaborated with organizations to design and implement projects that improve health outcomes in food deserts and promote economic development in underserved neighborhoods. Her heart-centered leadership has consistently centered student success, family stability, and community healing.
Outside of working on community projects, Shannon enjoys spending quality time with her family, cooking, focusing on her physical fitness and coaching volleyball.
She is the founder of a community volleyball program which is designed to provide skills training and build confidence and sportsmanship to youth residing in our most vulnerable communities.
She offers recurring six (6) week training cohorts throughout the year at the Rosemont Neighborhood Center, and offers competitive play through her AAU program. Shannon is also a proud member of Living Faith Ministries & Outreach where she serves in the office of Evangelism.
Shannon is the wife to Steve Currie III, who is best known as Radio Announcer “Steve January '' and proud mother to three beautiful children, Kamryn, Tyson and Taryn, and bonus daughter Anyea Garrido, and a joyful first time grandmother to her precious grandson, Ne’khi.
